Thanksgiving 2017

November 28, 2017

If you were a fly on the wall at our Thanksgiving feast, you might see a bountiful table of food; a large gathering of family and friends; beautifully detailed decorations. You might hear laughter and child’s prattle; the playing of guitar and singing of hymns; soft piano music in the background.

You’d see four generations present. Grandparents and parents, children. Great-grandparents.

There’s a bounty of food, but also a bounty of love. A whole lotta family togetherness and thankfulness. Thankfulness for family, and food, and friendship. Thankfulness for the blessing of being together on the same property. Thankfulness for our health. Thankfulness for the food we can buy and grow. Thankfulness for our generations of faithfulness.

This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful. It’s easy to get caught up in small details of life that annoy us. We forget to be thankful. We sit down to a big meal and forget to thank Who provided it for us. We take too many things for granted.

I’m thankful this year for music and colors. For telephones and typewriters. For flowers and grass. I’m thankful for my family, my crazy, big family. I’m thankful for my friends who email me randomly about their new sweaters and stabilize me when I’m standing on shaky fences. For rain and for beautiful sunsets; old movies and records. Turkey and stuffing and pumpkin pie. The amazing talents God has given my friends. Home-grown vegetables and access to fresh milk just down the lane.

And photography. Because it’s taught me skills I never knew, not only skills generic to my profession, but life skills. And because through it, I’ve met so many amazing people.

Below are some of my favorites from our Thanksgiving celebration this year! It was a gorgeous sunny day and was absolutely perfect. Enjoy!
